David Buchanan from San Bernardino County, Public Safety Communications joins the TA
June 13, 2005, Washington, D.C. - We are pleased to announce that Mr. David Buchanan has joined the 800 MHz
Transition Administrator. David comes to the TA from the County of San Bernardino in California where he spent more than 30
years in the public safety wireless telecommunications sector. In his most recent role as Network Services Supervisor,
he was responsible for the management and future upgrades of an 800 MHz integrated trunked/conventional radio system that
supported over 15000 units, and served 150 different agencies and departments in the 20,000 square mile county.
David holds several prominent positions in spectrum management and planning. He is a life member of the Associated
Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO), Chair of the APCO Spectrum Management Committee, Chair of the Region
5 700 MHz Regional Planning Committee, APCO Local Frequency Advisor for Southern California, and past president of
the California Public Safety Radio Association. In addition, he is a member of the FCC Public Safety Wireless Advisory
Committee, FCC National Coordination Committee, and National Public Safety Telecommunications Council. In 2004, he was
awarded the Art McDole award for long-term technical contributions to the art and practice of public safety communications.
David will be a key resource to assist with licensee communication and facilitate issue resolution in the 800 MHz
Reconfiguration Program. To ensure that the TA maintains independence, he will not be involved in decisions with respect
to his former employer.
