The TA Launches Subscriber Equipment Deployment Initiative to Expedite Reconfiguration Implementation Activities
March 22, 2007, Washington, D.C. —
The 800 MHz Transition Administrator, LLC (TA) today announces the launch of the Subscriber
Equipment Deployment initiative. This initiative is designed to expedite the completion of
reconfiguration by providing licensees the option to jump-start implementation activities for
subscriber equipment before negotiating terms and costs for reconfiguring system
infrastructure. The Subscriber Equipment Deployment initiative was developed by the
TA in consultation with the Public Safety community, Sprint Nextel, and other affected
program stakeholders.
“This is a significant new option,” said Brett Haan, Director, TA. “Licensees and vendors
are now able to start implementation activities earlier and spread the work over a longer
period of time. For example, a licensee with 10,000 radios will not be put in the position
of trying to install and reprogram the subscriber equipment in an overly short period of time.
We’ve worked with the public safety community to develop Subscriber Equipment Deployment to
provide licensees with more control over implementation timeframes within the context of
the program. Completing negotiations for all costs, terms and conditions associated with
both subscriber equipment and infrastructure reconfiguration is no longer necessary. This
option should be explored by all licensees who have not reached an agreement with Sprint
Nextel, especially those with large equipment fleets or those with regular fleet rotation
schedules.”
Participation in this initiative is optional; however, the TA recommends that all licensees
evaluate the benefits of participation. To participate in the Subscriber Equipment
Deployment initiative:
- Complete a Subscriber Equipment Deployment Request Form,
available at
http://www.800ta.org/content/PDF/forms/SED_Form.xls,
and email (comments@800TA.org) or fax (1-888-701-4380) the completed form to the TA.
- Enter into a Frequency Reconfiguration Agreement (FRA) with Sprint Nextel that
covers the terms, conditions, and costs of the subscriber equipment deployment.
Once an FRA is in place, all additional costs agreed to by the licensee and Sprint Nextel
that are associated with reconfiguration of infrastructure will be included in an
amendment to the FRA.
Complete guidance, including the Subscriber Equipment Deployment Request Form and
Instructions, is available on the TA’s website at
http://www.800TA.org/content/PDF/forms/SED_Instructions.pdf.
The TA will be conducting a virtual education information session – Webinar – on
Subscriber Equipment Deployment and the steps involved for licensees who decide
to pursue the option. The Webinar will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 from
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm (EST). Licensees can register on the TA’s website at
http://www.800TA.org.
For questions regarding Subscriber Equipment Deployment, please contact the
TA by phone at (888) 800-8220, by fax at (888) 701-4380, or via email
